CALL CONNECTS - November 2024
WaterMarks Day in the News!
Last week, in a celebration at the newly installed WaterMarker in Lindsay Heights, Milwaukee, Mayor Cavalier Johnson proclaimed that “Water really touches everybody in this city” and declared November 12, 2024, as WaterMarks Day.
Mary Miss and the City as Living Laboratory (CALL) team were thrilled to commemorate this watershed moment of the forthcoming installation of five markers, adding to the five previously installed across the city. WaterMarks is an ongoing initiative designed to bring people together to understand how water supports their lives, helping create an equitable, healthy, and resilient future. Highlights from November
CALL/ Conversations: Part 1
Early this month, CALL held the first CALL/Conversation program!
Former museum director Max Anderson, arts attorney Christine Steiner, and Charles Birnbaum, Founder and CEO of the Cultural Landscape Foundation, led an introspective discussion on Mary Miss’s 1996 project Greenwood Pond: Double Site.
In the next conversation, we will examine Double Site as a fulcrum point that led to shifts in Mary's practice and the conception of City as Living Laboratory. Please join us on February 12th, 2025 for CALL/ Conversations (Part 2)
Celebrating Indigenous Water Connections
On a Saturday afternoon, CALL Artist, Dennis RedMoon Darkeem, Artist and Educator Tecumseh Ceaser, Ray Pultinas President of the James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center, Bronx community members, and CALL joined together for an educational art workshop which explored the Indigenous histories and connections water in the Tibbetts Brook region.
