Community Engagement Associate (Paid)
Reports to: Programs and Operations Manager / Curational Consultant / Lead Artists
Location: 20% in CALL's Manhattan office and 80% throughout Queens. Some remote working is possible.
Start Date: to start in Spring 2024, as soon as possible
Commitment: The position requires a minimum six-month commitment, at approximately 10 hours per week. Hours may be flexibly set depending on the candidate’s availability (agreed upon start)
Salary: between $35 – $40 per hour depending on experience. Payroll is issued twice a month.
The Community Engagement Associate will support CALL/ City as Living Laboratory's Cloudburst projects in Flushing Meadows Park and Corona Queens starting in Spring 2024. Candidates who reside, study in, or have a strong connection to Queens are especially encouraged to apply. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required. Community Outreach & Relationship Management (60%)
Representing the Cloudburst Project in Queens and throughout NYC, acting as the first point of contact at community events;
Coordinating virtual and in-person public programs and workshops, in collaboration with partners;
Facilitating community workshops and stakeholder meetings;
Nurturing stakeholder relationships, through post-meeting follow-ups, one-to-one check-ins, site visits, and participation in external community events;
General project administration (tracking expenses, invoices, generating reports for contract and grant compliance);
Collecting and entering contact information into CALL’s Donorperfect database to create up-to-date mailing lists and communications with all Queens partners and participants.
Content Creation & Communications (30%)
Communicating updates to CALL Staff;
Generating content for monthly newsletters and other digital platforms (website, social media);
Assisting Communications Manager and Programs and Operations Manager as needed.
Research (10%)
Keeping up to date on recent developments in technical/scientific/design fields related to this project;
Researching specific issues as directed by project leads;
Helping to translate complex environmental information into understandable content.
Requirements:
Prior professional experience, through work, volunteering, or other internships;
Interest in sustainability, urban planning and/or contemporary art;
Reliability and commitment to responsibilities;
Confidence in engaging with new people;
Excellent organizational skills and technical savvy;
Self-direction and ability to work remotely;
Bilingual in English and Spanish.

City as Living Laboratory’s Board is looking to recruit new members to support the organization’s advancement. Board members play an essential role in steering CALL’s strategy, providing expert guidance to staff, and securing the organization’s financial future. Those with either 15 years of professional leadership or a record of significant professional accomplishments are encouraged to apply, specifically if they have expertise in fiscal management, events, social media marketing, external affairs, or policy. Candidates with less professional experience who are willing to invest significant time into helping CALL plan and execute fundraising events are also welcome to apply.
Board members are asked to attend at least one in-person meeting in New York City per year, and to participate in quarterly board meetings in person or via conference call. Board members are asked to serve on at least one committee or be an active participant in a CALL initiative. Board Members also make a commitment to an annual financial contribution to the organization, either via personal donation or individual fundraising activities.
