Updates on Greenwood Pond: Double Site

Judge rules that the Des Moines Art Center cannot demolish the iconic installation without Mary Miss' consent

We're pleased to share that the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa issued a temporary injunction prohibiting the demolition of Greenwood Pond: Double Site without Mary Miss' consent. This is a huge step forward, but our work is not done yet. Because the court also ruled that all maintenance and repairs of Greenwood Pond must be determined by the Des Moines Art Center, the state of Greenwood Pond is still vulnerable.

Learn more about The Buried Brook App

The Buried Brook is a free, interactive augmented reality sound walk app by composer Kamala Sankaram and commissioned by City as Living Laboratory. It traces the sonic geography of the buried Tibbetts Brook, which once flowed from Yonkers through the Bronx to the Harlem River. As you walk, the location data from your phone will turn on the different sounds and music including field recordings, songs sung in Munsee by Nikole Pecore and Ja'Ni'Ya'Ku'Ha Webster, and Hindustani ragas from the Malhar family. The app invites users to turn a sensitive ear toward the past, present, and future of Tibbetts.
