CALL WALKS: Head Above the Water

Anacostia, DC

CALL's most recent WALK, Head Above the Water, took place June 24 in Anacostia, Washinton, DC. Artists Cary Michael Robinson and Nicole Salimbene led participants on a full day of water-filled experiences along the Watts Branch and Oxon Run streams, tributaries of the Potomac River.

Head Above the Water's butterfly and dragonfly figureheads distinguished the marchers and drew the attention of passersby along with curious local residents. The WALKS culminated at The Well at Oxon Run with an inspiring presentation by its director, Jaren Hill Lockbridge.

A wide range of subjects were revealed and discussed during the WALKS from the scarcity of trash receptacles to food insecurity and air quality along with the central concern for flood awareness.

Once again a big thank you to all whose hard work and efforts resulted in such a lovely outcome, we hope to see you in DC again soon!

Navigating Climate Reform in the Arts

Saturday, September 9th at 4:00 PM

This conversation seeks to paint an expansive picture of climate responsibility in the art world by bringing together perspectives from across the art landscape, encompassing commercial, institutional, and curatorial voices. Together, the panelists will discuss ways to integrate sustainable practices into existing frameworks, the necessity of collaborating across disciplinary boundaries, and creating new pathways for promoting climate consciousness as a united front.
