WaterMarks Milwaukee Immersion

Plunge into WaterMarks!

Join Us for this Once in A Lifetime Experience

We invite you to witness the making of this groundbreaking city-wide initiative Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 29 through October 1.

CALL / City as Living Laboratory has been working in Milwaukee on WaterMarks since 2014 to build collaborations with artists, scientists, and communities that strengthen water stewardship for a better future. Conceived by Mary Miss, the constellation of WaterMarkers and lighting of the central, 300’ high Jones Island stack will connect people to their precious water resources across the city.

This is a watershed moment for WaterMarks (no pun intended). By fall we will have five WaterMarkers installed – each standing as a beacon to warn of heavy rains and Wi-Fi hot spots to share community stories about the neighborhoods where they stand – connecting people, histories, environments, and visions for the future – through the arts.

We will meet with the people making this happen. Our tour designers have recruited some of the most inspiring people in Milwaukee for us to engage with such as Kevin Shafer, Director of the Metropolitan Sewerage District, Mark Mone Chancellor University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and Tom O’Reilly VP of Sustainability, Rockwell Automation, along with artists Sarah Gail Luther, Glenn Williams, and a dynamic range of community activists.

A few highlights of the tour include a reception in the celebrated Rockwell Clocktower, great food, river tours, and conversations with some of Milwaukee’s visionary leaders along with notable experts from research institutes, philanthropies, and cultural organizations. We are also inviting representatives from significant foundations and partner organizations who will be seeing our work for the first time; your interest and enthusiasm for CALL would be so helpful. Please find the working itinerary below.

We are asking participants to contribute $500 to this landmark event which includes group meals and inner-city transportation. We will have great rates for downtown accommodations and for those who can’t make it to Milwaukee on September 29, we invite you to participate in an in-person and online forum with WaterMarks leadership to share elements of the tour. The “sharing” will take place in late October/early November, the date TBD.

Let us know if you have any questions. We’re happy to respond to calls and emails.
