This walk will proceed along a proposed route for daylighting Tibbetts Brook, the subject of our project 'Finding Tibbetts Brook.'
This walk will delve deeper into the significant impact daylighting the brook will have on the surrounding communities in the Bronx. Plagued by flooding and ecological hazards from sewer overflow and fractured by poor urban planning, proposals to restore the wetlands, unearth the brook and create a greenway reconnecting the community will transform this area into a safer and more sustainable place to live.
Meeting at the bottom edge of Van Cortlandt park, Charles McKinney, Eric Sanderson and SLO Architecture Principals Amanda Schachter and Alexander Levi will guide us along the route of the abandoned CSX railway heading towards the Harlem River, which is the ideal path for the daylighted Tibbetts Brook to flow as it restores balance to the ecology of the Bronx.
