Join us on Thursday, April 1st to talk about art and climate adaptation with Gemma Lawrence from Creative Carbon Scotland, artist Maeve Stone, and artist Mary Miss
17:30 LON / 12:30 NYC / 9:30 LA
In 2011, artist Mary Miss founded City as Living Laboratory in New York with the conviction that artists had an essential role to play in the sustainable future of our cities. At the same time, across the Atlantic in Edinburgh, Creative Carbon Scotland was forming with a mission to embed environmental sustainability within the arts and cultural sector in Scotland. Since then the organization has grown from helping arts organisations to report their carbon emissions to fully exploring the sector’s role in transforming society to address climate change. As a leader of the collaborative european Cultural Adaptations project, they have been re-imagining how artists could be embedded within local authorities and government agencies tasked with climate adaptation. Irish director Maeve Stone participated in this experience, as an embedded artist with Axis Ireland and Codema, Dublin’s regional energy agency.
In this conversation, we share experiences, ideas, and methodologies. We all believe that artist play an essential role in climate adaptation…but in practice, what does that actually look like?
The event will be held via zoom at 5:30pm British Time / 12:30 PM Eastern Time. Participants will be sent the zoom link in a confirmation email after registration.
